The Kansas City Chiefs could be heading abroad again sooner rather than later.

The Chiefs played abroad in Week 1 of the 2025 NFL season, taking on the Los Angeles Chargers in São Paulo, Brazil. Before that, they traveled abroad to Frankfurt, Germany, to face the Miami Dolphins in Week 9 of the 2023 NFL season. That cadence suggests Kansas City could avoid playing in an international game until the 2027 NFL season.

However, the NFL will play a single-season record nine international games in 2026, set to be played across four continents, seven countries, and eight stadiums. That means at most 18 of 32 NFL clubs will participate in an international game in 2026, with a few clubs potentially repeating (like the Jacksonville Jaguars did in 2025). That brings up the possibility that the Chiefs, one of the NFL’s biggest television draws, could play an international game in 2026.

Where will the NFL play international games in 2026?

Melbourne, Australia, at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, at the Maracanã Stadium.

Munich, Germany, at FC Bayern Munich Arena.

Three games in London, United Kingdom.

Madrid, Spain, at the Bernabéu Stadium.

Paris, France, at the Stade de France Stadium.

Mexico City, Mexico, at the Estadio Banorte.

Which of these could make sense for the Chiefs during the 2026 NFL season?

Only two teams have been announced for the international games mentioned above.

The New Orleans Saints will be one of the teams playing in Paris, France, as the designated home team. The Los Angeles Rams are set to play in Melbourne, Australia, as the designated home team. We already know the Chiefs’ opponents for the upcoming season. They do not play the Saints in 2026, but they do play the Rams on the road. It’s the first-ever NFL regular-season game in Australia, so you can understand why K.C. would be wanted as a possible opponent for the L.A. in that game.

Keep in mind that the Chiefs have been awarded international marketing rights in Mexico, Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. That doesn’t mean they are guaranteed to play in any of those locations, but they’re very likely to be at the top of Kansas City’s wish list. Next season will feature games in two of those international markets. The Chiefs, of course, haven’t played in Mexico since 2019’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers.
