The Arizona Cardinals and new head coach Mike LaFleur appear to have zeroed in on their new special teams coordinator. According to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, former New York Giants special teams coach Michael Ghobrial is expected to be the Cardinals’ new special teams coordinator.
Ghobrial has worked with LaFleur. He was the assistant special teams coach for the New York Jets from 2021-2023. LaFleur was the Jets’ offensive coordinator in 2021-2022.
After his three seasons with the Jets, he was the Giants’ special teams coordinator for two seasons under head coach Brian Daboll.
All his other coaching history, beginning in 2009, was in college, except for 2017, when he was on the Detroit Lions’ coaching staff under the Bill Walsh diversity coaching fellowship.
LaFleur will be introduced to the media on Tuesday.
