The Navy Midshipmen are expected to lose defensive coordinator P.J. Volker. He and the Baltimore Ravens are working to finalize a deal, per The Athletic’s Jeff Zrebiec. Volker would work under newly hired Ravens coach Jesse Minter as a defensive assistant.
The two worked together in stints at Georgia State and Indiana State and played college football together at Mount St. Joseph University.
Volker has spent the last seven years at the Naval Academy. He was hired as the linebackers coach before being promoted to defensive coordinator ahead of the 2023 season.
In 2025, the Midshipmen ranked 69th in points allowed per game (25) and 64th in yards allowed per game (371.3).
Now, Volker’s expected hiring will put him in a position to help Minter in his first season at the helm of the Ravens.

Baltimore’s defense ranked 18th in points allowed per game and struggled early, contributing to the team’s 1-5 start that led to the Ravens missing the playoffs for the first time since 2021. In bringing in Volker, who has nearly two decades of experience on the defensive side of the ball, Minter and the Ravens hope he can help improve that unit.
