The New York Giants have suffered another setback in their search for an offensive coordinator, as Davis Webb has opted to remain with the Denver Broncos in a promotion rather than join the team in East Rutherford.

Webb, a former Giants third-round draft pick in 2017 who started one game for Big Blue in the 2022 season finale, interviewed for the vacant OC position under new head coach John Harbaugh.

The Giants requested the interview in late January, viewing Webb’s rising reputation — bolstered by his work developing quarterbacks like Russell Wilson and Bo Nix in Denver — as a strong fit for guiding young signal-caller Jaxson Dart.

However, on Monday, the Broncos promoted Webb from passing game coordinator and quarterbacks coach to offensive coordinator, filling the vacancy created by the recent firing of Joe Lombardi following Denver’s deep playoff run.

This decision allows Webb to stay under head coach Sean Payton, another ex-Giant, where he has thrived since joining the staff in 2023 after retiring from playing.

The Giants had hoped to pair Harbaugh with Todd Monken, his former OC in Baltimore, but Monken took the Cleveland Browns head coaching job. The team has conducted virtual interviews with other candidates, including Jim Bob Cooter, Kliff Kingsbury, Brian Callahan, and Alex Tanney, with in-person meetings expected soon for finalists.

While Webb’s familiarity with the organization and his offensive acumen made him an intriguing option, his choice to accept the Broncos’ promotion leaves the Giants continuing their pursuit of a proven play-caller to elevate the offense.
