In April, Rodgers revealed to Pat McAfee that he needed to take care of some “personal issues” first before focusing on his decision.

“I have a couple people in my inner, inner circle who are battling some difficult stuff,” Rodgers said.

“So, I have a lot of things that are taking my attention and have since the beginning of January away from football.

“That’s where I have been focusing most of my attention on.”

Rodgers said he is still having conversations with the Steelers, and that they know where his focus is right now.

“I’m open to anything and attached to nothing,” Rodgers told McAfee.

“Retirement could still be a possibility, but right now my focus has been — and will continue to be — on my personal life.

“And that’s what I’ve told the coaches. There’s still conversations that are being had.

“It’s all been very honest lines of communication.”

Rodgers didn’t give any further details on what the issues were, but he offered up some more clues in a recent podcast appearance.

Pittsburgh Steelers receive incredible Aaron Rodgers news as NFL rival makes major decision over quarterback

On Joe Rogan‘s podcast this week, Rodgers revealed several people he is close with have cancer.

“I figured it out during the last year when I’ve been in the weeds with these people who are close to me that have cancer,” Rodgers said.

If that is the case, it makes sense why Rodgers would want to put more focus on caring for his inner circle than making a football decision.

As the NFL season approaches, there is optimism that Rodgers will end up as a member of the Steelers.

Ian O’Connor, the author of Rodgers’ recent biography, shared that he thinks the quarterback will be signed in time for mandatory minicamp on June 10.

NFL important dates 2025 season

March 12 – Free Agency begins

April 24-26 – NFL Draft in Green Bay, Wisconsin

September 4 – 2025 season opener (TBC vs Eagles)

November 27 – Thanksgiving Day triple header

January 4, 2026 – End of regular-season

February 8, 2026 – Super Bowl LX at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California

“I do think there will be a happy ending, at least for him, and we will find out for the Steelers and their fan base,” O’Connor said on The PM Team with Poni & Mueller.

“If I had $100 to put down, my feeling is he will be in uniform June 10th for the start of the mandatory minicamp.”

Rodgers could still sign with the Steelers even if he isn’t ready by the time minicamp starts.

There are six weeks separating those team activities and actual training camp at the end of July.

Regardless of what happens, NFL fans will get an answer about Rodgers’ status sooner rather than later.
