The Titans’ connection adds context to Nagy’s landing spot. Nagy’s relationship with Titans’ general manager Mike Borgonzi from their time together in Kansas City made him a logical candidate. The Titans ultimately chose Saleh, the former New York Jets head coach who spent 2025 as the San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator.
Nagy and Borgonzi overlapped in Kansas City’s front office during the Chiefs‘ championship runs. Borgonzi, who became Tennessee’s GM last year, knew Nagy’s system and approach from those years together. The familiarity made Nagy an attractive option for a Titans team built around rookie quarterback Cam Ward.
Harbaugh also had Titans connections during the coaching cycle. Tennessee planned to interview Harbaugh last month, but the Giants moved quickly and secured him first, leaving the Titans’ private jet running. Harbaugh agreed to a five-year deal with New York before the Titans meeting could happen.
Andy Reid Offensive System Lands in New York
Nagy brings extensive experience in Andy Reid’s offensive system. He served as the Chiefs’ offensive coordinator from 2016 to 2017, helping transform Kansas City from the 20th-ranked offense in 2016 to a top-five unit in 2017. That success earned him the Bears‘ head coaching job in 2018.
In Chicago, Nagy went 12-4 in his first season and won NFL Coach of the Year honors. The Bears made the playoffs twice during his tenure, though Nagy finished with a 34-31 record before getting fired after the 2021 season.
Nagy returned to Kansas City in 2022 as quarterbacks coach and senior assistant. The Chiefs promoted him back to offensive coordinator in February 2023, a position he held through the 2025 season. Nagy won two Super Bowl rings with Kansas City during his second stint. That being said, the Chiefs’ offense struggled mightily the last two seasons.
Harbaugh’s connection to Reid runs even deeper. He spent nine seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles under Reid from 1998 to 2007. Reid was one of four assistants who retained Harbaugh when he took over the Eagles in 1999. That relationship became the foundation of Harbaugh’s coaching philosophy before he left for Baltimore in 2008.
What would things have looked like if the Titans landed Harbaugh? We’ll never know. But now, New York has him, Nagy, and ex-Titans’ defensive coordinator Dennard Wilson on the sidelines.
