The Cleveland Browns hired a new head coach after firing Kevin Stefanski, and instead of going with Jim Schwartz, they went with a surprising name in Todd Monken.

He didn’t seem to be the favorite during the interview process, but now the new head coach, the former Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator, will be taking over a Browns team in dire need of proper direction.

While Monken is now in Cleveland, there is still one big decision that needs to be made: Who is calling plays on offense? As Underdog NFL shared, Monken announced the team’s play caller for 2026, as Monken himself will call plays.

Browns’ Todd Monken announces play caller for 2026 season

“HC Todd Monken said he will call offensive plays for the Browns,” Underdog NFL shared from Monken’s introductory press conference.

The new Browns head coach was the play caller for the Ravens the last few years, and while he had Lamar Jackson in Baltimore, the production was great for the Ravens under Monken.

The Ravens were a top offense the last few years, ranking 6th, 1st, and 16th over the last three seasons. While this past year wasn’t as great, that was thanks to Jackson’s injury limiting the offense for a lot of the year.

But, with a healthy offense, they didn’t just put up yards; they scored points. In 2023 and 2024, the Ravens offense ranked 4th and 3rd in points on the year. Even this past season, with an iffy offense, the Ravens had the 11th most points scored.

The offense under Monken was great, and while the Browns don’t have their own Jackson, as Shedeur Sanders, Deshaun Watson, and Dillon Gabriel aren’t nearly as good, their offense should still function at a high level going forward.

Monken calling plays is a good sign for the Browns, as, in an ideal scenario where they turn things around, the Browns won’t need to worry about their offensive coordinator getting poached for a head coaching job.

Things are looking up for the Browns, and if they can find some WR and OL help, and get more from the quarterback position, the 2026 season could be a sneaky good one for the Browns.
