The move is expected to benefit both the city of New Orleans, which has a rich French history, and the NFL as the league continues expanding its presence in Europe.
The game will be played at Stade de France and is reportedly set for Oct. 25 against the Cleveland Browns. The Saints will serve as the home team for the Paris matchup and will still play eight additional games at the Superdome next season.
The announcement became official Monday after months of speculation and years of work by the league and Saints owner Gayle Benson.
“We are so excited and you know I’ve been working on this for three years. It’s not like this just happened and so I’ve been working on the French government, the NFL to just get them all together and as you can imagine it takes a lot of work to get everybody talking,” Benson said.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said the league’s international plans extend beyond Paris.
“I think it’s the ambition that we have to be a global sport, but it’s also the demand that we’re having,” Goodell said. “We’re hearing from cities all over the world that want to host these games and that we really want to get more American football. And that’s one of the things that we’re really focused on.”
The date and opponent for the game hasn’t been officially announced as of yet.
