The Kansas City Chiefs did not renew one of their top coaches at the end of the 2025 season, and they have officially made their next move as the NFL coaching carousel is slowly coming to a close.
After three straight seasons playing in the Super Bowl, the Chiefs are watching from home this week as the Seattle Seahawks and the New England Patriots prepare to play for the Lombardi Trophy this Sunday.
Alongside that, there was also the news on Tuesday that former offensive coordinator Matt Nagy is leaving the franchise to be the new OC for John Harbaugh’s New York Giants.
For the Giants, it’s a strong move to bring more consistency and veteran leadership to a franchise that has been missing that stability over the past decade. Nagy will be taking over a young, explosive offense led by Offensive Rookie of the Year candidate Jaxson Dart.
Nagy, who has been the Chiefs’ OC for the past three years, has watched and helped the most decorated QB in the league, Patrick Mahomes. balance his scrambling, runs, and knowing when to use his legs.

That will be paramount in his development, as he wowed fans and pundits alike with his runs during the regular season but also missed time due to concussions from his reckless style. It will be up to Nagy to not suppress Dart’s talents but find ways to maximize his scramble ability without taking some of the hard shots he took in his rookie campaign.
For the Chiefs, it’s another page turned in what looks to be the closing of an era in Kansas City. Andy Reid will be back, and Mahomes is expected to be ready for opening day, but they are still awaiting Travis Kelce’s decision on whether he will return to play in 2026 or retire.
Kansas City hired former OC Eric Bieniemy to replace Nagy on staff.
