ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported former Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Frank Reich will become the next New York Jets OC.
The Philadelphia Eagles have their next offensive coordinator in Sean Mannion. The team’s OC when the Eagles won their first Super Bowl, Frank Reich, also has a new job.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Wednesday the New York Jets are hiring Reich as their new offensive coordinator.
This will be Reich’s third stop as an NFL offensive coordinator. He was the then San Diego Chargers offensive coordinator from 2014-15 before holding the role with the Eagles from 2016-17.
Reich helped the Eagles finish with a top 10 offense and Super Bowl title during the 2017 campaign.
Since then, Reich served as Indianapolis Colts head coach from 2018-22 and Carolina Panthers head coach in 2023.
The role with the Jets will be Reich’s first NFL opportunity since 2023. In 2025, Reich was Stanford’s interim head coach.
Jets Hiring Former Eagles OC Frank Reich: Report
Reich flamed out as an NFL head coach with the Colts and Panthers. Neither team allowed Reich to finish his last year as head coach.
During the middle of a very disappointing 2022 season with Matt Ryan behind center, the Colts fired Reich after Week 9. Reich was unable to get the Colts off the quarterback carousel they were on after Andrew Luck retired. That ultimately led to his demise.
In 2023, the Panthers held the No. 1 pick after trading up from No. 9. Carolina selected quarterback Bryce Young.
After Young started his career 1-9, the Panthers fired Reich.
Both situations were far from ideal for any head coach. Reich also was a great coordinator in Philadelphia, so it’s not shocking he’s getting another NFL opportunity.
With the Jets, Reich is stepping into another bad situation. But he’s a potentially calming presence with Super Bowl experience as both a player and coach.
Reich’s Resume as NFL Offensive Coordinator
The 2017 Eagles were the best statistical offense Reich has coached in his career. The unit finished third in points and seventh in yards with Carson Wentz and Nick Foles at quarterback.
After a disappointing finish to the 2017 regular season, Reich and former Eagles head coach Doug Pederson developed a game plan to maximize Foles’s strengths for the playoff run. It resulted in the Eagles winning the Super Bowl with Foles as MVP.
Although his Colts tenure ended poorly, Reich had a strong start in Indianapolis. With Luck behind center, the Colts went 10-6 in 2018. They won nine of their last 10 regular season games and a playoff contest.
In 2020, the Colts went 11-5 with Philip Rivers as their quarterback.
During 2018 and 2020, the Colts offense was top 10 in yards and points under Reich. His offense with the Chargers in 2015 was also top 10 in yards.
The big question for Reich in New York is who will play quarterback. Justin Fields remains under contract for 2026. However, the Jets also have the No. 2 pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
Reich will coach under Jets head coach Aaron Glenn, who fired eight assistants this offseason. Glenn will be entering his second season with the Jets in 2026, but he may have barely survived his first campaign after going 3-14.
With that in mind, there will be pressure on Reich to produce immediately regardless of who plays quarterback for the Jets next fall.
