JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KCTV) – A Missouri lawmaker has introduced a house bill that would stop the production of license plates with Kansas City Chiefs logos on them, following the team’s decision to move to Kansas in 2031.
Missouri Rep. Chad Perkins, of Bowling Green, Missouri, introduced House Bill 3050 in late January. The bill would stop the production of license plates with Chiefs emblems on them.
“Beginning August 28, 2026, any emblem agreement with the Kansas City Chiefs shall terminate and no new license plates shall be issued in the state with the team’s official emblem,” the bill reads.
License plates issued before that date would remain valid until they either expire or are surrendered by a vehicle’s owner.
In December, Chiefs officials announced plans with Kansas lawmakers to build a state-of-the-art domed stadium in Kansas City, Kansas, that would open for the 2031 NFL season.
Kansas residents have been allowed to get a Chiefs custom plate in the Sunflower State for several years.
