Titans’ quarterback Cam Ward had a strong message about new offensive coordinator Brian Daboll.

Cam Ward just made it crystal clear that he’s ready for Brian Daboll’s brand of tough love. That’s exactly what the Tennessee Titans need their franchise quarterback to embrace going into Year 2.

Tennessee Titans Cam Ward Looks Forward to Working With Offensive Coordinator Brian Daboll

Ward didn’t sugarcoat how he expects his new offensive coordinator to coach him.

“He is going to get on my *** when he needs to, and he is going to hold me to a high standard. And that’s the standard I want to be held to,” Ward said of Daboll, via Titans reporter Jim Wyatt.

That’s not just a throwaway line. This is the same quarterback who went viral during his rookie season for bluntly calling out how bad the Titans were during a skid, so when he invites a fiery coach to be on him constantly, it lands as genuine, not canned media training.

The Titans didn’t hire Daboll by accident. They paired Robert Saleh — a defensive-minded head coach — with one of the league’s most proven quarterback developers to fix an offense that averaged just 16.7 points per game in a 3–14 season.

Brian Daboll’s Stacked Resume

Daboll’s resume is the blueprint they’re trying to follow for Ward. In Buffalo, he helped turn Josh Allen from a wildly inconsistent rookie into an MVP-level passer who threw for 4,544 yards and 37 touchdowns in 2020. Daboll AP Assistant Coach of the Year that season.

At Alabama, he worked with Jalen Hurts and Tua Tagovailoa during a national-title run, then went on to coordinate offenses in Cleveland, Miami, Kansas City, and Buffalo before landing the Giants’ head job. With New York, he took a roster few expected to win 11 games and snagged NFL Coach of the Year in his first season.

Ward is signing up for a coach with a track record of demanding a lot and elevating young quarterbacks — and saying, out loud, that he wants the same treatment.

Cam Ward Titans’ Stats

Ward’s rookie numbers show both the strain and the upside. As the No. 1 overall pick, he started all 17 games and completed 323 of 540 passes for 3,169 yards, 15 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. Those raw totals came on an offense that sat near the bottom of the league in most efficiency metrics and only scored 16.7 points per game.

“Cam is a baller, man.”

The Titans fired Brian Callahan midseason, hired Saleh, then locked in Daboll to rebuild everything around Ward. Ward expects Daboll to push him, and he wants that pressure. For a franchise that believes it already found its long-term answer at quarterback, that’s the kind of quote that turns a coaching hire into an actual plan.
