The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have made one of the more splashy hires in the current NFL hiring cycle. The team retained head coach Todd Bowles, which meant he was tasked with building up a staff that was better than the one in 2025 to not only save his job but also to help the roster reach its potential.
NFL Media’s Tom Pelissero reported the latest addition, which came in the form of a new quarterbacks coach.

The team will hire Indiana’s Chandler Whitmer, who makes the jump from the college ranks to the NFL. He is coming off a season in which Indiana went 16-0 while winning the national championship, but he also coached the Heisman Trophy winner, Fernando Mendoza. Whitmer was also the co-offensive coordinator for Indiana. While Mendoza is getting ready for an NFL jump of his own, Whitmer gets a head start and joins the Bucs.
Previously, Whitmer was a graduate assistant at Ohio State and Clemson, and was also a three-year offensive quality control coach with the Los Angeles Chargers. His joining the Bucs allows him to reunite with Zac Robinson, who is the new offensive coordinator in Tampa Bay after they spent the 2024 season together in Atlanta with the Falcons.
