The Gateway Clipper Fleet is gearing up to transport thousands of attendees during the NFL draft in Pittsburgh this April, with plans for extensive operations and security measures. Terry Wirginis, president of the Gateway Clipper Fleet, said, “We will be having boats move here from Station Square to PNC Park. We’re going to have several boats also at Point State Park that will be taking people back and forth from Point State Park to Acrisure Stadium as well.”Wirginis explained that crews will work ten hours a day to transport thousands of people during the event. The fleet is collaborating with the U.S. Coast Guard and adhering to NFL security protocols. “They will be checking out all the boats, potentially with divers as well and dogs,” Wirginis said. “Going through all the boats, everything every day, and making sure everything is good.”The fleet operates five vessels, and attendees can access them by walking down the Clemente Bridge, taking the “T,” or boarding the Gateway Clipper boats, which are getting makeovers for the draft. Hannah Roth, vice president of marketing and sales for Gateway Clipper Fleet, gave us a tour of the newly renovated “Princess.” Roth said, “Full interior renovation, carpet, paint, fresh paint on the bar counter tops, new sconces, completely updated and refreshed bathrooms. We’re looking to give a new experience and offer something different.”Wirginis noted that visitors often inquire about activities at Station Square while waiting for a ride across the river. He mentioned plans for dockside activities and dining options for the draft, expressing optimism about Station Square’s future. “I’m looking at a very much revitalization of Station Square, from a standpoint of high-end shops, restaurants, and, I think, their visions are going to show us what we saw back all the way back to the 80s with what Station Square was like. We’re very excited,” Wirginis said.
