On Wednesday the Pittsburgh Steelers move their total of official coaching hires to 15 when they announced five more candidates were under contract and deemed “official”. Of those five names, four of them were know before the official tweet below was sent out by the Steelers social media team.

See the tweet below from the Steelers official Twitter/X account:

We have named Brian Angelichio offensive coordinator, Danny Crossman special teams coordinator, Joe Whitt Jr. assistant head coach/secondary, Domata Peko defensive line coach and Pat Reilly defensive quality control.

If you are like me, you looked at the list of candidates and immediately saw names you recognized. Names you recognized from social media, and here at Steel Curtain Network. Then there was the last name on the list which didn’t ring a bell. I’m referring to Pat Reilly, who was named Defensive Quality Control Coach on Mike McCarthy’s staff.

What will Reilly be doing as Defensive Quality Control Coach? Let’s first take a look at what Reilly has done in the past during his career, courtesy of the Steelers official website:

“Reilly was an offensive assistant for the Houston Texans in 2025, advancing to the divisional playoffs in his first season with the team.

“Prior to his time with the Texans, Reilly spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars as the assistant linebackers coach and defensive quality control coach.

“He got his start in college football, as a defensive analyst for Alabama, a defensive analyst and an assistant to the head coach and defensive coordinator at UCLA, as well as a defensive quality control coach working with the defensive line at UCLA.

In addition, Reilly spent time at SUNY-Brockport, Syracuse University and SUNY-Cortland in multiple roles.”

Reilly caps off the latest round of hires, but McCarthy’s work is far from done. Not only are their specific position coach vacancies which have yet to be filled, but also the unknown coaching positions which might be added with the new regime.
