SAN FRANCISCO (WVUE) – Drew Brees is expected to learn Thursday whether he will be inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame on his first ballot.
The former Saints quarterback played 20 NFL seasons, including 15 with New Orleans after five years with the San Diego Chargers. When Brees retired in 2021, he held NFL records for passing yards, completions, attempts, 5,000-yard seasons and consecutive games with a touchdown pass. He retired second in career touchdown passes.
Brees led the Saints to nine winning seasons during his 15 years in New Orleans. The organization had six combined winning seasons in the 29 years before his arrival. He also led the team to nine playoff victories, compared to one total playoff win before he joined the Saints.
Championship and community impact
Brees led the Saints to a Super Bowl championship during the 2009 season. He signed with New Orleans in 2006 following Hurricane Katrina’s devastation of the city.
The Hall of Fame announcement is scheduled for Thursday night. The Saints are currently in San Francisco.
