Los Angeles Rams general manager Les Snead addressed the possibility of quarterback Matthew Stafford retiring from the sport of football.

Heading into 2025, there were doubts that Stafford could make it all the way through a season after suffering from back issues, but he found a way to play at an elite level.

Now, after a disappointing loss to the Seattle Seahawks that left a sour taste in the team’s mouth, the Rams have started their offseason program, and for Stafford, that means reassessing his future in his late 30s as a quarterback who has dealt with injuries.

In a press conference after the season ended, Snead revealed what kind of conversations the team had with Stafford.

“I think we’ve had productive conversations with him,” Snead said, per Adam Grosbard of The Orange County Register. “So we’re going to give him his space to, let’s call it, recover, rejuvenate, and then determine, ‘Hey, do we want to get back on this horse again and go chase, earn, grab special moments together?’”

The Rams are seemingly waiting for Stafford to make his decision, respecting his space, though the organization will need to act quickly to find a potential solution at quarterback or prepare for another year of investing in the short-term.

“There is a vision to have sustained success over time,” Snead added in his presser. “But if Matthew decides to come back I do think there’ll be an element of – whether it’s 51-49, whether it’s 52-48, whether it’s 60-40 – let’s definitely make the most of the time we have with Matthew.
