The Eagles are hiring former Packers assistant Ryan Mahaffey as their new run game coordinator and tight ends coach, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on Thursday morning.

The coaching staff under new 33-year-old offensive coordinator Sean Mannion is starting to come together.

Mahaffey, 38, is a former NFL fullback who has been coaching in Green Bay for the past five seasons in various roles. Mahaffey made the jump to coaching in the NFL with the Packers as an offensive quality control coach in 2021, was assistant offensive line coach in 2022 and 2023 and has spent the last two seasons as wide receivers coach.

For the past five seasons, Mahaffey has worked under Packers head coach Matt LaFleur and he has worked alongside Mannion for the past two seasons.

In Philadelphia, he’ll take over the responsibility of run game coordinator as the Eagles begin to install a brand new offensive scheme that is expected to look more like the Shanahan/Sean McVay system that has taken over the NFL.

We learned on Wednesday evening that the legendary Jeff Stoutland will no longer be the Eagles’ offensive line coach. The Eagles wanted him back to coach the O-line but were going to take away his responsibilities as run game coordinator as they install the new scheme. Mahaffey will be the guy in charge of that important area.

He’ll also take over as tight ends coach, a role Jason Michael has had all five seasons under head coach Nick Sirianni. Michael came with Sirianni from Indianapolis, where he was the tight ends coach under Frank Reich for three seasons.

The Eagles have also been searching for a new quarterbacks coach to replace Scot Loeffler after just one season.

So it looks like the Eagles will have an almost entirely new offensive coaching staff under Mannion in 2026.

Mahaffey played college ball at Northern Iowa as a fullback before going undrafted in 2011. He spent some time with a few different clubs but played in just five NFL games with the Colts in 2011. He broke into coaching with his alma mater, Northern Iowa, in 2013. After a few other stops, Mahaffey eventually became the OC at Northern Iowa in 2019-20 before making the jump to NFL coaching under LaFleur.
