Green Bay Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst remains upbeat about his team despite their ugly end to the season that was sealed by a wild card round defeat at the hands of the Chicago Bears. He is especially optimistic about the future they will have under Jordan Love, whom he thought was a bright spot for them.

“I thought Jordan played really, really good football — some of his best football, especially down the stretch,” Gutekunst said on Wednesday in a press conference posted on the team’s official YouTube channel.

“I actually thought he was one of our guys that played very, very well down the stretch. Continues to be an unbelievable leader for our football team. I couldn’t speak more highly of what I think about Jordan and where he’s headed.”

Gutekunst also expressed faith in the 27-year-old quarterback, saying he will only get better.

Love recorded a 66.3% pass completion in 15 games he played this season, tallying 3,381 yards with 23 touchdowns. He had 52.2% (24-of-46) passing rate and had four touchdowns in the loss to the Bears.

They looked good at the start of their playoff game with the Bears after building a 21-3 halftime lead. However, it went downhill from there for the Packers, as they slipped up and allowed their rivals to rally for a 31-27 victory.

The Packers failed to surpass their wild card round finish last season. They haven’t reached the Super Bowl since they won it in the 2010 season. The farthest they’ve gone to so far under LaFleur was making the NFC championship, which they reached two times when they still had Aaron Rodgers as their QB1.

Gutekunst hinted that they will have key players back for next season, although changes are also being considered.

“I expect all these guys that are under contract to be back, but we’re just getting started at looking at how we’re building out the team for next year,” the Packers GM added.
