Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss has had his appeal for an extra year of eligibility denied by the NCAA. Chambliss had applied for a waiver following the end of the 25-26 season, which was initially denied by the NCAA. Chambliss began his career at Ferris State from 2021 to 2024. He then entered the portal and signed with the Rebels, where he began the season as the backup to then starting quarterback Austin Simmons.

Chambliss becomes one of many players to have sued the NCAA for an extra year of eligibility. Chambliss is seeking an extra year due to claims that he was medically unable to play a season while at Ferris State. If Chambliss wins his lawsuit, it would put him back into a situation that would allow him to continue his success at the University of Mississippi with new head coach Pete Golding.
Â
Chambliss threw for 3,937 yards, 22 touchdowns, and three interceptions in his lone season with the Rebels, while also rushing for 527 yards and eight touchdowns on the ground after taking over as the starter in week three. Chambliss redshirted his freshman year and did not play his sophomore season. In his redshirt junior season with the Ferris State Bulldogs, Chambliss threw for 2,925 yards, 26 touchdowns, and six interceptions while rushing for 1,019 yards and 25 scores on the ground, leading the Bulldogs to a Division II National Championship. Chambliss will continue to fight for an extra year in the state courts with a pending lawsuit, with a hearing date set for next Thursday, February 12, in Pittsboro, Mississippi.
