It’s like watching a snowball grow and pick up speed as it rolls downhill. Then again, maybe that isn’t a descriptive enough explanation of what most are feeling. Ever since qualifying for the postseason and being outclassed and outcoached by a battered and bruised San Francisco 49ers team, every update about the Philadelphia Eagles feels like one avalanche after another.

Here’s something we can hang hats on. Those in the know who are more familiar with Sean Mannion’s work than most of the rest of us believe his hire was a home run. The Eagles also added another candidate they liked, new passing game coordinator Josh Grizzard, but before that, we had to endure weeks of reporting about how undesirable the offensive coordinator vacancy was.

Maybe it seemed like a stretch to call it ‘undesirable’, but something is clearly off about the NovaCare Complex’s atmosphere as two of the Eagles’ best assistants entered the chat for all the wrong reasons. Vic Fangio had to be talked out of retiring. Fortunately, he’ll remain as defensive coordinator through the 2026 NFL season.

There is a ton of bad press about the Eagles coming from Philadelphia.

The news about Jeff Stoutland wasn’t as great. He has announced he’ll move on. Sadly, a toxic work environment appears to be the culprit.

Every Philadelphia sports platform has dedicated more hours to this on Thursday than to the Philadelphia 76ers and the NBA trade deadline. Don’t look now, but Nick Sirianni and the Eagles are being mentioned for the wrong reasons again.

Disaster. Mismanaged situation. Bad leadership. We’re hearing these words and phrases far too often. This is an unusual set of circumstances for the Philadelphia Eagles and how they are being viewed. They, not the Dallas Cowboys, are becoming the picture of dysfunction.
