Ask any New York Jets fan what they think of when the name Gary Vaynerchuk is mentioned, and grandiose thoughts of team ownership begin dancing in one’s mind. After all, the man is a self-proclaimed “psycho” for having dreams of owning the Jets one day, the franchise that his sports fandom obsesses over.

However, it’s this self-described obsession that places him in such a positive category among the ranks of the Jets fanbase. This is precisely why his opinions about the team are taken seriously.

On Thursday, while appearing on a special radio row edition of The Jake Asman Show during Super Bowl week, Vaynerchuk shared a strong opinion about what the Jets should do at the quarterback position this offseason, particularly how it relates to the NFL draft.

“I think we punt it,” is how Vaynerchuk responded when asked what his beloved Jets should do at the quarterback position this upcoming draft season. “I do not want to take a quarterback, minimally, until Round 5 or 6.”

When asked how he felt about the Jets potentially using a second-rounder on a quarterback, Vaynerchuk did not waver.

“I would be devastated,” he added. “Yeah, I think we need a lot of things … and [the Jets] have the 2027 draft, [which is] insanity [from a quarterback perspective].”

Vaynerchuk is the CEO of VaynerMedia and chairman of VaynerX. Perhaps more apt, he’s been a rabid New York Jets fan his entire life.

Often spotted at Radio City Music Hall in the old days of the NFL draft, Gary Vee could be seen screaming his head off after his Jets made a selection. One example was the 2006 iteration when he was deeply appreciative of the D’Brickashaw Ferguson pick at No. 4.

As far as the current team is concerned, a Ferguson-type isn’t likely at No. 2 in the 2026 NFL draft. With Olu Fashanu and Armand Membou already bookending the offensive line, fans and pundits believe a defender like Arvell Reese is more likely.

Where Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey look to add to the quarterback room is anybody’s best guess at the moment. Justin Fields is still contractually on the roster, but the odds are strong that he won’t return.

If Gary Vee had his druthers, the New York Jets would dip into the free agency or trade market for their starting quarterback in 2026, only to then target a youngster in the 2027 NFL draft.
