All right, Woody Womack here with a legendary NFL quarterback, Warren Moon, on behalf of the NFL Alumni, Fatherhood Champions program.

There you go, you got it!

Got it all out in one, one mouthful.

we’re gonna talk about that in a little bit.

First, we gotta talk about this game, man, I mean- Oh, yeah … Seahawks, legend.

That’s why we’re here, right?

That’s right.

What does it mean to see the team back in the Super Bowl?

I mean, it wasn’t As a, as a fan, I’m sure you hoped, but it was not exactly on anybody’s radar at the start of the year.

Probably not Super Bowl, but definitely getting to the playoffs, ’cause last year they were a 10-win team, and, you know, that was Mike’s first year, Mike McDonald, their head coach, first year, and you knew there was gonna be some more improvement, ’cause he was gonna bring in b- some better players offensively.

He’s gonna continue to build his defense.

So I thought they’d at least be in the playoffs, but they’ve been on a great run, and that’s all it really takes when you get to the playoffs, is who gets on that run and, and wins those three games to get to this big game, and, and they’ve been able to do that.

How about the play of Sam Darnold?

I mean, coming in, he had, he had a great year last year, and then at the end, it kind of went off the- Yeah … tracks a little bit, and a lot of people thought, “Hey, it’s gonna happen again this year,” but he almost has gotten better, you know, the last few rounds of the playoff.

He really has, and that’s what you want your quarterback to be a- at this point in the, of the year.

You want him to be playing his best football, because that’s what it’s gonna take to, to get your team to a game like this.

And, yeah, everybody was looking for the r- for the, for the roof to cave in or something like that with, with Sam, because it’s happened before.

But, you know, Sam’s a different player.

He’s much more, much more mature.

He learned from what happened last year, and he’s, he’s a, he’s just a better player, so, I’m happy for him.

I love his story.

I love this whole journey that he’s gone through since he’s been in the league.

What has he been to, like, five, five different teams already in, in his, first eight years in the league?

So, it, it’s a great story, and hopefully, hopefully it ends the right way on Sunday, and, they should make a movie out of this if, if it happens that way.

I will put- get you in as executive producer.

I, I’ll have a lot of good things to add to it, believe me.

Yeah.

Now, Tom Brady made headlines this week saying he’s, “Oh, I’m not picking.

I’m not rooting for anyone.”

Yeah.

How, how about you?

I am biased, and I am a Seattle fan, and I’m rooting for the Seattle Seahawks, and I, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

And I played for other teams, you know.

Sa- of course, Tom played for, for Tampa, too, but, hi- his legacy is, is in New England.

I don’t know why he just didn’t say, “I’m rooting for the Patriots.”

Yeah, I was gonna say, that’s- It would’ve been so easy.

It would’ve never Nobody would ever question that, you know?

Yeah, as my kid “We’re calling cap on that one,” as my kids would say.

Even though he’s a, you know, a Raiders part owner, and he’s, he’s on television, you can still say who you’re, who you’re rooting for.

It’s okay.

We know another guy that, that you’ve had a relationship with is Cam Ward, number one pick.

Yeah.

Obviously, you, you gave him the blessing to, to wear number one.

Yeah.

Just kind of give us a rundown of his year, what you saw towards the end of the year.

Seemed like he was I mean, he was in a tough situation where the coach got fired, but it seemed like he got a little better as the year got along.

He really did.

He finished strong, but you know, he started out the way most young quarterbacks that go to a bad football team would.

You know, he struggled, and, and, when, when you don’t have a lot of weapons to work with, the quarterback position is a, is a dependent position.

You gotta have, you know, good offensive line, you gotta have good receivers, you gotta have a good running game to take some of the pressure off of you.

So he went through the same ups and downs that any number one overall pick usually goes through.

He- the thing that I- that disappointed me, he said a few things that he probably shouldn’t have said in, in the media, and then, and I talked to him a little bit about that.

But, I think he finished the way you want him to finish.

the, the coaching situation settled down after the, after Coach Callahan was fired, and now you get- bring in Robert Saleh, who’s got a really good group of coaches that he’s bringing in to, to help build this thing back up.

So if they put some really good pieces around him this, this off-season, I think you’ll start to see his, his, true f- true talent come to the top.

All right, well, tell us about what you’re here for, why you’re on Radio Row with the NFL Alumni and then, and the stuff you do in the community.

Yeah, we have a fatherhood, fatherhood program with the NFL Alumni, and, and what we’re trying to do is, is, reach out to fathers and try to help them to become better fathers.

give them, give them more, tools and techniques to, to be closer to their families, be closer with their kids.

You know, I came from a, a, a family where my dad passed away when I was seven years old, so I didn’t have a dad growing up, so I always thought it was important for me, when I did have kids, to make sure I was involved in their life, ’cause I knew how much, it hurt me to not have a dad, say, after my games and different things like that, where I see other boys have their, their dads at their games, other dads working out with them, trying to make them better.

I didn’t have that, so I wanted that for my kids, and I, I want I, and I’ve been a big part of their lives, and I wanna see more dads become bigger parts of their kids’ lives, because the, the, the statistics prove that when you only have one parent in the home, most of these kids are growing up in poverty.

So it’s important to have both parents at home, but if they’re not gonna be there, at least the dad can have some type of relationship with his, with his kids and with his family, so they don’t suffer as much as, as they need to.

Okay.

Great, great initiative.

Yeah, thank you.

All right, thanks for joining us, Warren.

Thanks for having me.
