Even though new Giants coach John Harbaugh has his offensive coordinator, Matt Nagy, he is still turning to an old friend for help.

Harbaugh has hired Greg Roman for a to-be-determined role on the offensive side of the ball, according to The Athletic.

So Nagy and Roman — both prominent coaches — will work to mold promising quarterback Jaxson Dart in his second season and beyond.

Roman, of course, is quite familiar with Harbaugh — and with his younger brother, Jim, the Chargers’ head coach.

Plus, this marks of a homecoming of sorts for Roman, who graduated from Holy Spirit High in Absecon and grew up in nearby Ventnor.

Roman was John Harbaugh’s Ravens offensive coordinator from 2019-22. After he replaced Roman with Todd Monken, Roman took 2023 off and then spent 2024-25 as Jim’s offensive coordinator in Los Angeles.

Jim just fired Roman. And now, he is back with John in East Rutherford.

John wanted to bring Monken with him from Baltimore to the Giants, in order to run the Dart-led offense. But the Browns made Monken their big whistle, so John pivoted to Nagy, after the Chiefs let him walk as their coordinator and brought back Eric Bieniemy to replace him.

Roman goes way back with the Harbaughs. From 2009-10, he was Jim’s associate head coach at Stanford. When Jim coached the 49ers from 2011-14, Roman was his offensive coordinator that entire time.

From 2015-16, Roman coordinated the Bills’ offense under Rex Ryan.

In 2017, Roman joined John in Baltimore, beginning a two-year stint as tight ends coach. Roman ascended to coordinator in 2019.

When Jim left Michigan and returned to the NFL with the Chargers in 2024, he brought Roman out of unemployment to steer the Justin Herbert-led offense. But after two seasons, Roman was out.

And now, at age 53, Roman is back in New Jersey, working under a Harbaugh yet again.
