School district to change name to ‘Drakeut’ in honor of New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye
DIFFERENT. PRETTY SOON. ANTOINETTE WHEN STUDENTS WALK INTO DRACUT HIGH SCHOOL THIS MORNING, IT MAY HAVE A COMPLETELY DIFFERENT NAME WHEN THEY WALK OUT OF IT. THAT’S BECAUSE THE SCHOOL COMMITTEE IS VOTING TODAY ON CHANGING THE NAME FROM DRACUT HIGH SCHOOL TO DRACUT. RIGHT THERE YOU SEE, WITH A K AND AN E. ALSO, THEY WANT TO MAKE THE SAME CHANGE FOR DRACUT PUBLIC SCHOOLS FOR SUPER BOWL SUNDAY IN HONOR OF THE PATRIOTS QUARTERBACK, OF COURSE. NOW, THE SCHOOL COMMITTEE CHAIR SAYS A SUBCOMMITTEE ACTUALLY MET WITH STUDENTS EARLIER THIS WEEK, AND STUDENTS WERE ABSOLUTELY THRILLED TO BE INVOLVED WITH THIS. DRACUT WOULD FOLLOW IN THE STEPS OF MAY STREET SCHOOL IN WORCESTER, WHICH IS A TEMPORARY EXTRA E AND OF COURSE, MAYNARD, WHICH YOU JUST DISCUSSED, WHICH VOTED TO CHANGE ITS NAME FOR THE WHOLE TOWN FOR A DAY, WITH SIGN MAKERS GETTING TO WORK QUICKLY. The school committee in Dracut, Massachusetts, will vote Friday to officially adopt the names “Drakeut High School” and “Drakeut Public Schools” for Super Bowl Sunday in honor of Patriots quarterback Drake Maye.The school committee chair said a subcommittee met with students earlier this week, and students were thrilled with the proposed name change. “This is a fun opportunity for our entire school community to show its support for the New England Patriots and Drake Maye as they battle for another Super Bowl victory,” said School Committee Chair Renee Young.Dracut would follow in the footsteps of “Maye” Street School in Worcester, which has a temporary extra “E.” The town of Maynard voted this week to change the name of the town to “Mayenard.” The Dracut School committee will meet virtually at 3:30 p.m. to officially adopt the name.
