Bradley
Robert Saleh has added another veteran coach with previous head coaching experience to his initial Tennessee Titans staff, bringing in Gus Bradley as defensive coordinator.
Bradley was with Saleh in San Francisco last season, serving as assistant head coach of defense and Saleh’s chief lieutenant as Saleh worked as defensive coordinator.
San Francisco 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan bypassed promoting Bradley to defensive coordinator and instead opted to hire former Atlanta Falcons head coach Raheem Morris for that position.
That freed Bradley up to pursue other opportunities, and he will join Saleh in Tennessee.
Bradley was head coach of the Jacksonville Jaguars from 2013-16. He joined Brian Daboll, who will serve as offensive coordinator, as Saleh’s top assistants with previous head coaching experience.
He first rose to prominence in the NFL as the architect of the Seattle Seahawks “Legion of Boom” defense when he served as that team’s defensive coordinator.
Bradley will not call the plays in Tennessee. Saleh said in his introductory press conference that he would call plays himself for the defense.
Bradley’s role will be to implement the game plan each week and install it, much in the same way that Nick Holz handled creating the offensive game plan each week for the past two years, even though Brian Callahan and later Bo Hardegree called the offensive plays.
