The Dolphins are predicted to select Jermod McCoy

Heading into the offseason, the Miami Dolphins have several needs on the roster that must be addressed. They put themselves in this situation after several blockbuster trades for star players left them without many draft picks. While the Dolphins’ roster featured high-end talent, it lacked depth, and now that those veterans are expected to be cap casualties, the team must find a way to replace them.

Additionally, with the few picks the Dolphins had in the draft, they did not nail their selections, and when combined with the Tua Tagovailoa contract, it resulted in the dismissal of general manager Chris Grier. Now, the Dolphins will rely on new general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan to turn the franchise around, with the first step being acquiring talent in the upcoming draft.

Miami Dolphins Predicted to Add Top Cornerback in 2026 NFL Draft

The Dolphins hold the No. 11 pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. It will mark their highest selection since the 2021 NFL Draft, when they drafted Jaylen Waddle with the sixth overall pick. Now, a new mock draft by ESPN’s Matt Miller has the Dolphins selecting cornerback Jermod McCoy out of Tennessee.

Miller wrote, “Players who sit out a season due to a torn ACL don’t typically get picked this high, but McCoy is worthy of being an exception. He produced elite tape in 2024 and would have been my top-ranked cornerback in the 2025 draft had he been eligible. McCoy’s injury happened last January during training, so he should be ready this spring. The 6-foot, 193-pound press corner did enough in his four-interception 2024 campaign to convince teams he’s the real deal.

Several positions could be in play for the Dolphins at No. 11, including quarterback. But given the QB draft landscape, Miami’s new brass of general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan and coach Jeff Hafley could tempt Malik Willis to follow them from Green Bay instead. This pick could then be used to select a cornerback who is ideal for Hafley’s press scheme.”

Additionally, Miller has the Dolphins drafting wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. out of Indiana in the second round. Regarding that selection, he said, “Cooper is one of the best ball-tracking receivers in the class and can make an immediate impact from the slot. With Tyreek Hill’s future in question after a season-ending knee injury, this would be a need pick for Miami’s new front office.”

Miami Dolphins Secondary

Many Dolphins fans will roll their eyes at the Dolphins selecting a player who is fresh off his season-ending injury. Previous general manager Chris Grier had a tendency for either drafting or signing players coming off injuries as he deemed them to be good value. Unfortunately, often that ended up poorly as they got hurt with the Dolphins again.

However, a player as talented as McCoy might be worth the risk for the Dolphins. Additionally, the Dolphins have a need at cornerback as their top two cornerbacks in the 2025 season are both set to be free agents. While veteran cornerback Rasul Douglas revealed that he hopes to return to the Dolphins, the team will still need to add secondary help before the 2026 season.
