Watching the Seahawks play is a family tradition for Belinda and Eddy Castro and their son, Fabian Castro. They get together for every game, celebrate with food and drinks and cheer on the Seahawks.
And that’s what they will do on Sunday. They will watch the game at Belinda and Eddy’s home in Yakima and probably have a barbecue, Belinda said. She’s already started decorating a bit and plans to put out blue and green balloons and streamers on Saturday.
Not surprisingly, Belinda and Eddy’s devoted Seahawks fandom has prompted some to call them “the Seahawks couple,” she wrote.
“Even when the season is over, we show our pride by wearing our colors, blue and green, every day and our Seahawks logo,” Belinda wrote in an email. Even their house in Yakima is Seahawks “from the outside to the inside.”
Eddy became a fan in 1983, when he was 10 years old. It began with him watching games on his dad’s lap. Eddy and his dad, Ruben Castro, were stalwart despite the ribbing Seahawks fans got back in the day.
Back then, if you were a Seahawks fan “people use to laugh at you, make fun of your clothes and say things like, ‘Seahawks, how can you wear that?’ Eddy would tell them, ‘Because I love that team more than you will ever know,'” Belinda wrote.
Her favorite players over the years are Steve Largent, Shaun Alexander, Russell Wilson, Sam Darnold, Jaxon Smith-Njigba and Cooper Kupp. Kupp graduated from Davis High School; Fabian also went to Davis “so we are definitely happy that he is back home with the Seahawks,” she said.
Belinda, Eddy and Fabian love the team, the fan base and being “12s” fans. They’re proud of the team, which has come so far to be where it is now, she wrote.
Like Coach Mike Macdonald said, “We don’t care what anybody says or thinks about the Seattle Seahawks and going to the Super Bowl and winning it all. This is our year again.”
They didn’t attend the celebratory parade when the Seahawks won the Super Bowl last time because Belinda had to work. No matter what happens this Super Bowl, Belinda promised her family they will attend the parade in Seattle to support their beloved Seahawks.
