Insider makes feelings clear on Myles Garrett’s future with Browns
The Cleveland Browns could opt to make some difficult decisions with their defense this offseason.
Cleveland saw defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz resign from his role after he didn’t land the head coaching job. With Schwartz no longer with the team, some defensive players could look to play elsewhere in 2026.
None is bigger than reigning Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett, who just broke the sack record. And, 92.3 The Fan’s Browns insider Nick Wilson believes trade talks will happen again this offseason.
“Would it surprise me if at any point we heard, ‘Hey people are offering the Browns things for Myles Garrett?’ No,” Wilson said. “Do I think Myles would go through another public trade request? No.”
Garrett, of course, did request a trade last offseason, but he opted to sign a mega extension with Cleveland instead. However, he had a great relationship with Schwartz, which is why Wilson thinks his name could once again come up in trade talks.
Garrett finished this year recording 60 tackles, 23 sacks, and 3 forced fumbles in a dominant showing.
Schwartz Leaves Browns
Schwartz was in the running for the Browns’ head coaching job, but the team opted to hire Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken instead.
The Browns’ defensive coordinator was livid at the decision and reportedly stormed out of the building. Then, on Friday, it was reported that he submitted his resignation letter to the team.
“Jim Schwartz sent the Browns a resignation letter this morning, per sources. He now is likely to sit out this season,” Adam Schefter reported on X.
The team, meanwhile, confirmed Schwartz submitted his resignation and thanked him for his time.
“Jim Schwartz submitted his letter of resignation as defensive coordinator of the Cleveland Browns,” the team said in a statement. “We’d like to thank Jim for his contributions to our organization over the last three seasons. Our search for a new defensive coordinator will begin immediately.”
Under Schwartz, the Browns had one of the most dominant defenses in the NFL. Yet, a big reason could be Garrett, but Cleveland will now have to make sure they hire the right person for 2026.
Garrett Requested a Trade From Browns Last Offseason
Garrett has been one of the best defensive players in the NFL for years, and last offseason he requested a trade from the Browns.
The star pass rusher said he wanted a chance to win and felt like he wasn’t going to get that with the Browns.
“While I’ve loved calling this city my home, my desire to win and compete on the biggest stages won’t allow me to be complacent,” Garrett said in his statement. “The goal was never to go from Cleveland to Canton, it has always been to compete for and win a Super Bowl. With that in mind, I have requested to be traded from the Cleveland Browns.”
The Browns immediately shot down his request, and the sides ended up agreeing to a four-year, $160 million deal.
However, after another losing season and Schwartz’s resignation, perhaps Garrett’s name comes back up in trade talks.
