Before the Chicago Bears‘ 31-27 win over the Green Bay Packers in the wild-card round, team owner George McCaskey had a moment that went viral during a photo opportunity with fans.

McCaskey visited Bears fans in the parking lot outside Soldier Field and was set to take a photo with a group when in stepped a Packers fan wearing a Jordan Love jersey and yellow coat.

McCaskey wasn’t having any of the photo bomb.

The Bears owner stiff-armed the Packers fan, much to the delight of the crowd around him.

During an interview with Jarrett Payton of GN SportsTV, McCaskey said he regretted touching the Packers fan.

“It was just a reaction–I should not have done that,” McCaskey said. “I should have just let him have his photo bomb and waited for him to walk away and then take the picture that the Bears fans wanted… What do people say? I need to be better in those moments.”

Payton didn’t think McCaskey went overboard. Bears fans will agree.

Things between the Packers and Bears were testy this season. After beating Green Bay in the playoffs, head coach Ben Johnson said “(expletive) the Packers” in the locker room, causing Packers fans to vent.

McCaskey didn’t regret Johnson’s choice of words, saying he told the coach to be authentic. McCaskey knows beating the Packers is the key for the Bears having success.

“Up before the season, a couple of things that I shared with them are, if you look at 100 years of history, whether the Bears have a successful season, has a lot to do with how we do against Team Voldemort,” McCaskey said. “But if you sweep, you get a pretty darn good chance of having a successful season.

“If you split, you still have a good chance. But how that series goes has a big impact on how the season goes. And the other thing I told him was, ‘When you’re with your players, you got to be authentic. They can spot a phony. You got to do what comes naturally.’ So yeah, we talked and we’re on the same page.”

Johnson didn’t regret the moment either. He probably didn’t think the stiff arm was an issue either.
