Seattle police boost patrols to ensure safe Seahawks Super Bowl celebrations amid citywide excitement.

SEATTLE — With excitement building across Seattle ahead of the Seahawks’ first Super Bowl appearance in more than a decade, police are stepping up patrols to keep celebrations safe.

“We’re all feeling the anticipation today,” said Seattle resident Sydney Henderson. “I’m just really excited to see what goes down tomorrow.”

The Seahawks are set to play in their biggest game since their back-to-back Super Bowl runs in 2013 and 2014. While fans are hoping for another Lombardi Trophy, Seattle police say they’re focused on making sure Sunday’s festivities don’t get out of hand.

“We want to make sure everybody is celebrating and having a great time,” said Detective Brian Pritchard with the Seattle Police Department. “But we also want to make sure there aren’t people out there that are impaired.”

Police said it will be all hands on deck Sunday, with DUI emphasis patrols planned for busy areas throughout the city.

Back in 2014, when the Seahawks brought home their first Lombardi Trophy, thousands of fans flooded the streets in jubilation. While police say there were no major incidents, they did deal with a few people climbing light poles and the historic pergola in Pioneer Square.

“We want to remind people not to do that again,” Pritchard said. “It’s a historical structure, and we don’t want to see anyone get hurt.”

Fans like Henderson said they’re just hoping everyone celebrates responsibly.

“In 2026, there’s no excuse to get behind the wheel drunk,” she said. “We have Uber, Lyft, taxis — so keep everyone safe and keep yourself safe.”

Whether the Seahawks win or lose, police and fans alike are hoping for a safe, spirited Super Bowl Sunday across the Emerald City.
