The former West Virginia quarterback spent several years as a backup for the Giants, but took over the starting job after Phil Simms went down with a broken foot. He led the team to wins in their final two regular season games by throwing for two touchdowns and rushing for a third without turning the ball over. He had similar success in the playoffs, leading the team to three straight wins and a Super Bowl title after throwing for three touchdowns and rushing for a fourth without turning it over. He then spent the next six season as, essentially, a full-time starter for the Giants and the Raiders.

He was also on the official roster and appeared in thirteen games for the 1986 Super Bowl Champion Giants. So he has two rings.Â
