Ravens’ superstar running back Derrick Henry is looking forward to working with Jesse Minter and Declan Doyle

The Baltimore Ravens have had an unexpectedly busy start to the offseason. After a disappointing 2025 campaign, the team shockingly decided to fire its longtime head coach, John Harbaugh. A quick search for a new head coach led to former Los Angeles Chargers‘ defensive coordinator Jesse Minter being hired as his replacement, and he has quickly begun working on building out his staff.

This is a lot of change for a Ravens team that has been a pillar of consistency throughout its storied history. With a new offensive coordinator, Declan Doyle, also being brought to town alongside Minter, the impact on the roster is going to be wide-ranging. One guy whose status bears watching is superstar running back Derrick Henry, but it sounds like he’s pumped to get to work with Minter and Doyle.

In 2025, Henry enjoyed another dominant campaign, rushing for 1,595 yards and 16 touchdowns. However, his usage by Harbaugh throughout the year was somewhat confusing, as he frequently was not on the field in late-game situations. How Minter opts to utilize Henry is one of the big questions he will face as he takes over in Baltimore, but the superstar running back is simply looking forward to meeting his new head coach.

“Just an introduction to one another,” Henry said of his first interaction with Minter on “Up & Adams.” “Just talking about his vision and his excitement to be a part of the organization. I told him I’m excited to have him, I look forward to getting to know him and getting to work.”

The guy who will likely have a bigger impact on Henry’s overall usage is Doyle, who spent the 2025 campaign working as the Chicago Bears‘ offensive coordinator. How Doyle operates the Ravens’ high-octane offense is very important, especially with the team continually coming up short in the playoffs in recent years. Similar to Minter, though, Henry is looking too far ahead when predicting Doyle’s impact on the offense.

“I don’t really try to put predictions on anything,” Henry said of what he’s looking for Doyle to do on the offensive side of the ball. “I just want to get to know him, install the system, and put the work in.”

When Henry is firing on all cylinders, the Ravens’ offense looks nearly unstoppable. The problem in 2025, though, was that Henry wasn’t always turned to, as Baltimore looked to limit his usage. Beyond that, Lamar Jackson spent much of the year battling injuries, which put more pressure on Henry to deliver when he had the ball in his hands.

For the most part, Henry delivered the goods, but it still wasn’t enough for the Ravens to even qualify for the playoffs. It’s clear that both Minter and Doyle have some serious work to do when it comes to helping this squad maximize its potential, and while the 2025 season just ended, Henry is already looking forward to hitting the ground running in 2026.
