It’s Super Bowl Sunday!! The biggest day on the NFL calendar, and the Seattle Seahawks and New England Patriots are poised to lift the Lombardi trophy after Sunday’s festivities. With all the news surrounding both teams, one development in recent weeks has been Seahawks’ offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak taking the Las Vegas Raiders head coach position. He will, obviously, stay with the Seahawks through the Super Bowl, but he will fill into his new role immediately following the game.

Klint Kubiak is from a football family, and his dad, Gary Kubiak, is a Super Bowl champion himself.

So, who is Gary Kubiak? And how did he indoctrinate his son, Klint, into becoming such a strong football mind?

Gary Kubiak; Former NFL QB and Head Coach

Gary Kubiak is a former NFL head coach. He was the leader of the Denver Broncos‘ charge in Super Bowl 50, which was 10 years ago. Kubiak is a highly accomplished name in the NFL. He has four combined Super Bowl rings as a coach and a player.

Kubiak played nine seasons in the NFL (1983-91), serving as the backup quarterback to John Elway for the Broncos. He then started his coaching journey by taking the Broncos OC position in 1995, and holding pat as Denvers play caller until 2005. Gary Kubiak then took his first head coaching job with the Houston Texans in 2006. He went 61-64 with the Texans over eight seasons.

He stepped down from being a head coach in 2017 due to health concerns, but he’s since taken assistant positions across the league. His record with the Broncos over two seasons was 21-11 (in the regular season).

Klint Kubiak’s Emergence in the NFL

Klint Kubiak got his start as Denver’s offensive assistant in 2016, and then went on to be the OC for the Vikings and Saints before landing the OC job with the Seahawks this season. 2025 is Klint Kubiak’s first season with Seattle, and it will be a one-and-done as he’s set to move on to be the Raiders’ new coach.

Gary Kubiak’s coaching tree stretches far and wide and features many prominent names in the NFL landscape. Kyle Shanahan (49ers‘ current head coach) got his opportunity under Gary Kubiak. Gary Kubiak served as the OC with the Broncos under Mike Shanahan, so the coaching lineage is strong between the Shanahans and Kubiak’s. Gary Kubiak and Mike Shanahan won two Super Bowls together (1997-98).

Gary Kubiak is a well-known figure across the NFL, and now his son, Klint, looks to put another Lombardi Trophy in the family trophy case in Super Bowl LX. The 60th edition of the biggest game in American sports, and it’s fitting that it features prominent names on both sides.
