Former St. Xavier, Panthers star Kuechly selected to Pro Football Hall of Fame

Cincinnati native Luke Kuechly is headed to Canton.Kuechly, a former star linebacker at St. Xavier High School, was selected for the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 2026, the NFL announced Thursday.Kuechly was drafted by the Carolina Panthers with the No. 9 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft and played eight seasons with the Panthers before retiring after the 2019 season.Injuries, specifically a series of concussions, limited Kuechly’s career, but he was one of the most dominant defensive players in the sport when he was on the field.Kuechly was named to the Pro Bowl in every season but his rookie year in 2012, was a five-time All-Pro recipient, won AP Defensive Player of the Year in 2013 and was named the AP Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2012.Kuechly spent his entire career with the Panthers and collected 1,092 total tackles, 18 interceptions, nine fumble recoveries, seven forced fumbles and 75 tackles for loss.
