The Chicago Bears have their new offensive coordinator, promoting Press Taylor to the position on Super Bowl Sunday morning.

Taylor served as the Bears‘ passing game coordinator during Chicago’s first season under head coach Ben Johnson. The 38-year-old fills the vacancy created by Declan Doyle, who was hired as the Baltimore Ravens‘ offensive coordinator.

Johnson’s time in Detroit had some wondering if he might poach one of the Lions‘ coaching staff members to fill the OC vacancy. Lions run game coordinator / offensive line coach Hank Fraley or assistant head coach / wide receivers coach Scottie Montgomery both could have made sense for the position given their ties to Johnson.

But, Detroit fans don’t need to worry about that possibility anymore. For a Lions squad that’s looking to return to the postseason and Super Bowl contention in 2026, offensive continuity throughout the staff is important for Detroit’s offensive stars.

The Lions hired former Arizona Cardinals offensive coordinator Drew Petzing as its new OC in January. The Petzing hire drew a stamp of approval from Lions quarterback Jared Goff, who called it a home run hire.

During his time in Arizona, the Cardinals ranked second in the NFL in rushing average (4.92) and were ninth in rushing yards (6,399).

Petzing, 38, helped direct an Arizona offense that finished second in yards per carry in both the 2023 (5.0) and 2024 (5.3) seasons.

Under Petzing’s direction, the Cardinals also watched tight end Trey McBride garner back-to-back Pro Bowl selections (2024-25) and first-team All-Pro status this past season. In 2025, McBride led all NFL tight ends in receptions (126) and receiving yards (1,239), while tying for the most receiving touchdowns (11).

McBride’s 126 receptions established a single-season NFL record among tight ends.

With Sunday’s news, Petzing can rest easy knowing that key offensive staffers will remain in place in the Motor City.
