Two years after departing Baltimore, MacDonald’s Seattle Seahawks used a stout defense, a strong rushing attack, and a precision passing game that featured Jaxon Smith-Njigba to earn the No. 1 seed in the NFC.
MacDonald is now a Super Bowl-winning head coach after a dominant performance by the Seattle defense, which sacked Patriots quarterback Drake Maye six times on the night. Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold was 19-38 passing for 202 yards, one touchdown, and a 74.7 rating. Kenneth Walker III logged 27 carries for 135 yards, while Cooper Kupp had six catches for 61 yards on 12 targets.
The Seattle defense held the New England offense to 6-for-15 on third downs, 331 total yards, and 79 rushing yards, as the Seahawks battered and confused Patriots quarterback Drake Maye on the night. The MVP runner-up, Maye was 27-43 passing, for 295 yards, two touchdowns, two interceptions, and a 79.1 rating.
Mack Hollins led the Patriots with four catches for 78 yards and one touchdown, as star pass catcher Stefon Diggs was held to three catches for 37 yards on three targets.
