The Philadelphia Eagles lost a legendary coach when offensive line guru Jeff Stoutland left the franchise last week. On Monday, the Eagles settled on his replacement.

The Eagles are hiring Chris Kuper as their offensive line coach, according to a report from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Kuper spent the last four seasons as the Minnesota Vikings’ offensive line coach. It was there that he crossed paths with Sean Mannion, the Eagles’ new offensive coordinator.

Kuper replaces Stoutland, who was the Eagles’ longest-tenured coach after joining in 2013. He worked with three head coaches (Chip Kelly, Doug Pederson, Nick Sirianni) and was an integral part of two Super Bowl wins.

Stoutland was not only the team’s offensive line coach, but also the run game coordinator, a role he added ahead of the 2018 season. However, The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Jeff McLane reported on his podcast earlier this offseason that Stoutland’s run game coordinator responsibilities were taken away from him at some point in the 2025 season.

That reportedly played a factor in Stoutland’s exit.

“I’ve decided my time coaching with the Eagles has come to an end,” Stoutland wrote on X last Wednesday. “When I arrived here in 2013, I did not know what I was signing up for. I quickly learned what this city demands. But more importantly, what it gives back. The past 13 years have been the great privilege of my coaching career. I didn’t just work here, I became one of you. Stout out.”

Stoutland, who turns 64 years old this week, did not say if he was retiring or not.

Under Stoutland’s tutelage — known by the players as “Stoutland University” — the Eagles’ offensive line thrived. Pro Bowl left tackle Jordan Mailata said last week that he was “heartbroken” by Stoutland’s departure.

We’ll see if Kuper can connect with Mailata and the rest of the Eagles’ offensive line and build on what Stoutland accomplished.

Kuper’s arrival is a part of an overhaul on the offense staff. After Kevin Patullo was removed from his position as OC, Mannion was hired to replace him. Josh Grizzard (pass game coordinator) and Ryan Mahaffey (run game coordinator, tight ends coach) have also been hired this offseason.
