This means that Chiefs general manager Brett Veach will need to clear nearly $60,000,000 from Kansas City’s 2026 payroll before he can sign a single player in free agency.

While the Chiefs have gone to great lengths to keep their window for championship contention open, the team’s current salary cap number is clearly untenable.

Fans in Kansas City should expect Veach to restructure Patrick Mahomes’ contract, which could free up $44,360,000 in cap space by converting the star quarterback’s salary to guaranteed bonuses, according to the quants at OverTheCap.com.
