David Njoku has played his last game with the Cleveland Browns.
The tight end announced on Instagram Monday that he plans to “find a new home” in free agency this offseason, adding that he’s “grateful for all the memories” he made in Cleveland.
Njoku, a first-round draft pick in 2017, has spent his entire career with the Browns, collecting 4,062 yards and 34 touchdowns across his nine seasons with the team. He earned a Pro Bowl nod in 2023 when he recorded a career-high 882 yards and six touchdowns.
The last two seasons have unfortunately seen Njoku deal with a handful of injuries. He played just 11 games in 2024 and 12 games during the 2025 campaign. He recorded 293 yards and four touchdowns this season, marking his worst statistical season since 2020.
After the Browns ruled Njoku out of their season finale, former head coach Kevin Stefanski made it clear how he and the coaching staff felt about the veteran tight end.
“He and I have a very unique relationship. He thinks I didn’t like him when I first got here, which is not true. I just told him the truth and he didn’t like that,” Stefanski told reporters. “But to watch him mature and become a leader, the energy he brings in the building, the unbelievable plays that he’s made over the years. … I think the world of the person. Obviously disappointed for this season and the injuries, but I think very highly of the person.”
Stefanski’s departure could have something to do with why Njoku has decided to move on from the Browns, or perhaps he’s looking to land with a team that will give him a better chance to win a championship. Regardless, the 29-year-old will be on a new squad in the fall.
