Garner native and San Francisco 49ers defensive lineman Keion White was shot in the ankle early Monday at an event following the Super Bowl, according to team officials.
“Keion White was a victim of a shooting and sustained a bullet wound to his ankle this morning in San Francisco,” the team said in a statement on Monday evening. “He is currently undergoing surgery at a local hospital. We will provide further updates when appropriate.”
San Francisco police responded to a shooting just after 4 a.m. Monday at a business in San Francisco, NFL.com reported. A preliminary investigation shows a a verbal altercation between two groups inside the business happened before shots were fired.
No arrests have been made.
White, 27, joined the 49ers midway through the season after being traded from the New England Patriots, who were competing on Sunday night’s Super Bowl.
White played at Garner High School. He also played from 2021-2022 at Georgia Tech and from 2018-2020 at Old Dominion.
