Two familiar faces got their hands on the Lombardi Trophy with the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday. The NFC Champions cruised to victory against the New England Patriots in Super Bowl 60, winning 29-13 behind a suffocating defensive performance and a strong running game.
Former Mississippi State offensive lineman Charles Cross and Lee High School graduate Leslie Frazier are both members of the Seahawks organization. This is the first Super Bowl win as a player for Cross and the third as a player or coach for Frazer.
Cross is the starting tackle for the Seahawks, recovering from an injury at the end of the regular season to make his playoff return. He featured in wins over the San Francisco 49ers and Los Angeles Rams on his way to his first Super Bowl appearance.
The Seahawks struggled to get into the end zone through the first three quarters, but found success on the ground with Kenneth Walker III recording 135 rushing yards in a Super Bowl MVP performance.
Quarterback Sam Darnold faced plenty of pressure from the Patriots’ defense, but was sacked just once on his way to 202 passing yards and a fourth-quarter touchdown.
Frazier joined the Seahawks’ staff under incoming head coach Mike MacDonald. He was named associate head coach, bringing more than 30 years of coaching experience and defensive expertise to the rookie coach’s staff.
The Seahawks defense ranked first in the NFL in touchdowns allowed and second in total EPA/play with an average of -0.12.
