San Francisco 49ers defensive end Keion White is recovering after being shot early Monday night, raising concerns about player safety after two 49ers players have been shot within three years.
According to The San Francisco Standard, White and his friends were holding a party at a San Francisco bar and nightclub when hip-hop artist Lil Baby’s entourage tried to get into the event. White allegedly argued with Lil Baby. witnesses reported hearing multiple gunshots, one of which hit White in the leg.
White was taken to the hospital with a non-life-threatening injury and is expected to recover. White’s shooting is the second incident involving a 49ers player in less than two years. Wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was shot in the chest during an armed robbery in the city Aug. 31, 2024. Pearsall survived but missed the first six games of his rookie season.
San Francisco Mayor Daniel Lurie said he was thankful that White will be OK.
“Any violent incident in our city is unacceptable, and I’m hoping Keion recovers quickly,” Lurie said via ABC 7 in San Francisco. “I’ve spoken with SFPD and 49ers leadership — we are all grateful to our SFPD officers for their quick response. As always, I will continue working with San Francisco law enforcement to ensure our neighborhoods and our residents are safe.”
Fans reacted to White being shot with disbelief.

“If a Free Agent was smart, he wouldn’t go to SF,” X user @ny152g said.
“Legit question, is San Fran the hood or something?” X user @sports_feenz asked. “Cause Full House had me fool the way these 49ers getting shot!”
White appeared in nine games for the 49ers in the 2025 season, finishing with 1.5 sacks, seven tackles, two tackles for loss and a fumble recovery.
