BALTIMORE, Md. (7News) — The Baltimore Ravens are bringing a familiar face back to Charm City.

The team named Anthony Weaver its new defensive coordinator on Tuesday, head coach Jesse Minter announced, marking Weaver’s third stint in Baltimore — this time calling the shots on defense.

Weaver, 45, most recently served as defensive coordinator for the Miami Dolphins and now enters his 22nd NFL season, including his 15th as a coach. He previously coached with the Ravens from 2021–23 and played defensive end in Baltimore from 2002–05 after being selected in the second round of the NFL Draft.

“A highly-regarded defensive mind, Anthony Weaver has a proven track record of success and is the definition of what it means to be a Raven,” Minter said in a statement. “He elevates players with his football IQ, tactical knowledge and natural teaching ability.”

Proven production on defense

Weaver takes over the Ravens’ defense after two strong seasons in Miami.

In 2025, the Dolphins finished top 15 in takeaways, sacks, and forced fumbles, while linebacker Jordyn Brooks earned first-team AP All-Pro honors after leading the NFL with 183 tackles. Miami’s defense surged late in the season, ranking among the league leaders in strip sacks and interception rate from Weeks 10–18.

In 2024, the Dolphins finished fourth in total defense, their first top-5 defensive ranking since 2006, and were the only NFL team that did not allow a 100-yard rusher all season.

A strong history in Baltimore

Ravens fans know Weaver’s résumé well.

During his previous coaching run in Baltimore, the Ravens consistently fielded one of the league’s best defenses. From 2021–23, Baltimore ranked among the NFL leaders in run defense, third-down defense, and red zone efficiency.

In 2023, the Ravens led the league in scoring defense and sacks, finishing 13–4 and earning the AFC’s top playoff seed. The year before, Baltimore ranked top 5 in scoring defense, run defense, third-down defense, and sacks en route to a playoff berth.

From player to leader

Before becoming a coach, Weaver spent seven seasons as an NFL defensive end, including four with the Ravens. He appeared in 103 career games and recorded 260 tackles and 15.5 sacks.

A standout at Notre Dame, Weaver was a team captain, All-American, and team MVP as a senior. He later earned induction into both the Saratoga Springs and Capital Region halls of fame.

Now, Weaver returns to Baltimore once again — this time tasked with leading the next chapter of a defense that has long defined the Ravens’ identity.
