The San Francisco 49ers finished their 2025 season with a 12-5 record and in third place in the NFC West, which was good enough to make the postseason, though their run ended with a divisional-round loss to the Seattle Seahawks.
Before we fully move on to 2026, this time of year is great for reflecting, so let’s take a break to focus on the performance of different position groups from this past season.
Today, let’s look at the offensive line room, led by veteran offensive line coach Chris Foerster, in his seventh season with the team and fifth in the position.
Trent Williams: B+
The 37-year-old played just 10 games in 2024, so it was great to see him come back out and start 16 games and make it to a 12th Pro Bowl and fifth All-Pro team. It may have been the injuries, but he showed some signs of slowing down throughout the year. However, he was still San Francisco’s best lineman by far.

Bartch, in his third season with the team, was set to be a starter for the first time, but injuries limited him to just six games and just two starts. When he was on the field and healthy, he was perfectly average while pass protecting and creating holes in the run game.
Jake Brendel: C
Brendel has been with the 49ers since 2020, and this was the first time that he missed time due to injury, as he didn’t play in two games. He was better when run blocking in 2025, but he still wasn’t overly impressive.
Dominick Puni: C+
Puni was San Francisco’s third-round pick in 2024 and was named a starter as a rookie. He appeared in all 17 games again this year with mixed results at the position. If he plays well in 2026, he could be in line for an extension after the year.
Colton McKivitz: B-
Speaking of extensions, San Francisco decided to reward McKivitz with a three-year contract in early September. He went on to have a solid year, and playing 17 games, he proved to be the 49ers’ second-best offensive lineman.
Connor Colby: D-
Colby, one of San Francisco’s seventh-round picks, started six games at guard with Bartch injured, and he was tough to watch. He may need time to grow, but he didn’t inspire confidence in his first opportunities as a rookie.
Spencer Burford: C-
Burford entered at left guard when he returned from his own injury to try to rescue the team from Colby’s disastrous play. He wasn’t much better, honestly, but at least he had the experience and knowledge from playing in the system.
Matt Hennessy: INC
Hennessy signed with the 49ers in 2024 and played in two games last year. He played in 17 in 2025 and started two with Brendel going down. He’s a solid depth piece who could start in a pinch.
Austen Pleasants: INC
Pleasants has been in the NFL since going undrafted in 2020 out of Ohio, but prior to 2025, he had played just five total games. This year, he was on the field for 15 games and even started one in Williams’ place. There was a huge dropoff from Williams, but he held up well against the Chicago Bears. That wasn’t really the case in the regular-season finale against the Seahawks.
