This offseason the Minnesota Vikings have seen plenty of familiar names land new coaching jobs around the NFL. While general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah wasn’t retained, that may have been a key data point in negotiations to bring back defensive coordinator Brian Flores.

Although the Vikings lost some talent from the coaching staff, more notable hires revolved around former assistants from the organization. On Wendesday Darrell Bevell joined that contingent as well.

Dave Canales is still working to turn things completely around in Carolina. They took a strong step forward this season winning the NFC South despite an 8-9 record. Now he’ll have even more experience working with him next year.

The Panthers are hiring Darrell Bevell as associate head coach/offensive specialist, per sources.

Bevell gets an associate head coach title while also focusing on the offense. With the Minnesota Vikings, Bevell served as the offensive coordinator from 2006 through 2010. He then went to Seattle for seven years and won a Super Bowl in 2013. It was there that he crossed paths with Canales.

Never a full-time head coach, Bevell has held the interim tag twice. He went 1-4 with the Detroit Lions in 2020, and 1-3 with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2021. Bevell did interview for the Jets offensive coordinator job, but settles into this role after working as the Dolphins quarterbacks coach for the past four seasons.

Although Brad Idzik is already installed as the Panthers offensive coordinator, there’s no denying that Bevell’s experience can be of benefit to the organization. Now 56 years old, he has 13 years of NFL coaching experience to his credit.

Dates for the 2026 NFL schedule have yet to be revealed, but the MN Vikings will host the Carolina Panthers at U.S. Bank Stadium this season.
