The Miami Dolphins signed undrafted quarterback Brett Gabbert on Wednesday after he participated in the team’s rookie minicamp on a tryout basis last week.

Gabbert, 24, had a six-year collegiate run with the Miami RedHawks, starting 52 games for the team with 80 touchdown passes, 30 interceptions, and eight rushing touchdowns. He joined Zac Dysert and Ben Roethlisberger as one of only three quarterbacks to eclipse 10,000 passing yards with the RedHawks.

Four different quarterbacks saw time in the regular season for the Dolphins in 2024 as starter Tua Tagovailoa was sidelined for six games due to injuries. Tyler Huntley took the majority of the snaps in relief of Tagovailoa, but Skylar Thompson made one start and Tim Boyle saw action in two games.

In the offseason, the Dolphins added former No. 2 overall pick Zach Wilson to be the team’s backup in 2025 and picked Quinn Ewers in the seventh round of the 2025 NFL draft. While Gabbert has little chance at earning a spot on the team’s 53-man roster, he could earn a spot on the practice squad if he proves to be a developmental talent.

Gabbert is the younger brother of 2011 first-round draft pick Blaine Gabbert, who spent 12 seasons in the NFL and earned two Super Bowl rings as a backup with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Kansas City Chiefs.

To make room for Gabbert on the roster, the Dolphins waived veteran linebacker William Bradley-King.
