Wide receiver KC Concepcion

ESPN draft analyst Field Yates released his first post-Super Bowl mock draft on Wednesday morning. Yates called for the San Francisco 49ers to select Texas A&M wide receiver KC Concepcion with their first round draft selection.

Concepcion has been ranked anywhere between the No. 25 and No. 35 spot in this years’ draft rankings, putting San Francisco in perfect range to select him at No. 27 overall.

The Niners are losing Brandon Aiyuk in all likelihood, while Jauan Jennings is a free agent with his sights set outside the Bay Area. Wide receiver will be an area San Francisco will be desperate to improve with the losses of those two.

Though Kendrick Bourne and Ricky Pearsall played important roles with other receivers injured, they don’t project to be long-term fixtures with the team, making Concepcion a perfect fit to grow within Kyle Shanahan’s system for the future.

Yates Projects 49ers to Select Concepcion in First Round

Concepcion was Texas A&M’s leading wide receiver in 2025, racking up 919 yards and nine touchdowns in what was a great season for the Aggies.

Here’s Yates’ report on Concepcion:

“The 49ers are desperate for help at wide receiver and edge rusher this offseason, but the latter has a natural lift coming with the return of Nick Bosa and Mykel Williams from ACL injuries,” Yates wrote. “However, their top wide receiver (Jauan Jennings) is a free agent and Brandon Aiyuk is all but gone from the team.

Concepcion is an explosive play waiting to happen, as he scored 25 receiving touchdowns in three college seasons and took a pair of punts to the house during his lone season at Texas A&M. He’s a contender for the fastest wideout in the class and would be a fun player for coach Kyle Shanahan.”

Explosive plays were few and far between for the Niners this season, who relied heavily on running back Christian McCaffrey and tight end George Kittle in the pass game. Concepcion would add an entirely new level to San Francisco’s pass game.

Concepcion’s Potential Impact on 49ers Offense

Concepcion is an explosive playmaker who excels in open space, but the one knock on him has been his propensity for drops.

Here is Bleacher Report’s scouting report on Concepcion:

“Concepcion is an explosive playmaker in space. Once he secures the football, he places defenders in conflict. He excels in creating plays after the catch with his toughness, elusiveness and explosiveness. His versatility opens up the playbook, because he’s also dangerous on bubble screens, pre-snap motion, jet sweeps and handoffs.

Concepcion has experienced focus drops throughout his career. He transitions from receiver to runner quickly. Sometimes, he will take his eyes off the ball before properly securing the catch. By slowing down his process to ensure the ball is secure, he then turns into a playmaker.”

If San Francisco can smooth out some of Concepcion’s weak spots, he could very easily be a No. 1 wide receiver in the NFL. And the 49ers may need him to be that sooner than later if they do end up losing both Aiyuk and Jennings this offseason.
