Former Chiefs linebacker Darron Lee faces the death penalty after being charged with murder.

New details have emerged in the alleged murder case of former New York Jets linebacker Darron Lee.

Lee was arrested in Tennessee on February 6th. He was then charged with first-degree murder in the death of his girlfriend, Gabriella Carvalho Perpétuo.

He remained at the scene where he was taken in by the Hamilton County (Tennessee) Sheriff’s Office.

New details emerged Wednesday when ESPN’s Rich Cimini reported on X that the prosecution was seeking the death penalty for Perpétuo’s murder.

Warning: the details are graphic.

“Lee faced a judge this morning, with the judge ruling for Lee to be held without bond,” Cimini wrote. “Prosecutors are seeking the death penalty. Details emerged from the alleged murder. Lee’s girlfriend, identified as Gabriella Carvalho Perpetuo, had a stab wound, a broken neck, a bite mark and bruises. The cause of death was determined to be blunt force trauma. Lee is charged with first-degree murder.”

Alleged Graphic Details From Scene Of The Crime

When police arrived on the scene, Lee suggested that Perpétuo suffered from narcolepsy and her condition led to her untimely demise.

However, investigators soon realized that the crime scene did not support Lee’s story.

According to a report by WVTC-TV in Chattanooga, detective Brian Lockhart of the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office found the victim in a blood-covered home.

“There was blood going up the staircase, on the hand railing there was blood, on the walls there was blood, on the floor in the living room there was blood, in the floor of the hallway and the stairs,” the WVTC report reads. “There was blood in just about every room except one.”

Darron Lee’s NFL Career

Lee was a first-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft. He was selected 20th overall by the New York Jets, where he played for three years.

His career was highlighted by a three-sack season in 2017 when he recorded 96 total tackles in 15 games played with New York.

Lee was traded for a sixth-round pick to the Kansas City Chiefs in 2019. He appeared in 15 games for Kansas City and earned a Super Bowl ring.

The next season he played just two games for the Buffalo Bills before falling out of the league permanently.
