The New York Jets will be in the market for a new starting quarterback this offseason. With a shortage of options available via the 2026 NFL draft, general manager Darren Mougey may be tasked with getting creative. One rumored option is Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray, who may be traded this offseason after being benched in 2025.

The Cardinals drafted Murray at No. 1 overall in 2019. He’s been a high-upside franchise quarterback with occasional lapses in production and consistency. Regardless, there’s no denying Murray is an NFL starting quarterback, and the Jets would improve with him under center.

If the Jets are to acquire Murray via trade this offseason, there’s a key date to keep in mind. Murray is due a roster bonus on March 16th, the fifth day of the new league year calendar, according to ESPN reporter Josh Weinfuss. Cardinals general manager Monti Ossenfort will likely make a determination regarding his future before then.

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn and offensive coordinator Frank Reich will be under pressure to deliver immediate results in 2026 after a disappointing 2025 season. Acquiring Murray could position the Jets for a quick rebuild and maybe even playoff contention. March 16th is the key date to monitor for Murray.
